Saudi Polymers runs new cracker, HDPE units at 80-90% - buyers ICIS News : 21-Sep-12 06:27
SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Saudi Polymers Company (SPCo) is running its new cracker and high density polyethylene (HDPE) plants, in Al-Jubail, Saudi Arabia, at 80-90% of capacity in September and is in the progress of ramping up production, the company’s buyers said on Friday. Company officials could not be immediately reached for comment. SPCo has a cracker that can produce 1.165m tonnes/year of ethylene and two 550,000 tonne/year HDPE lines. With healthy run rates, the first few cargoes of on-spec HDPE film and medium molecular weight HDPE blow moulding grades has arrived on the Chinese shores and some southeast Asian countries, traders said. “The first on-spec cargo has just arrived in mid September,” a trader based in Shanghai said. Apart from exporting to Asia, SPCo has started to offer their new material to European buyers for September shipment, traders said. At the same production site, SPCo has a 400,000 tonne/year of polypropylene (PP) facility, but operating rates remain low as the unit is still in the progress of stabilising its production. Saudi Polymers is 65%-owned by Saudi Arabia's National Petrochemical (Petrochem), with the remaining 35% held by Chevron Phillips Petrochemical (ACP) – a subsidiary of Chevron Phillips Chemical (CPChem).
